Sole and the Skyrider Band is a project of rapper Sole, one of the founders of Anticon. The album is experimental hip-hop, take if you like Why?, El-P, Aesop Rock, etc.
Charlemagne is the songwriting project of a man named Carl Johns. I discovered him a few years ago when my boyfriend wanted to name a death metal band Charlemagne but found out the name was already in use.
No download link (at the label's request), but you can buy the album here. It's great, so I really encourage you to buy it if you can, or see them if they come to your town.
Everything, Now! is a band from Indiana, my home state, and the state which has also brought you Murder by Death, Margot and the Nuclear So and So's, and Arrah and the Ferns. Their psychedelic leanings will probably draw "of Montreal" and maybe "The Flaming Lips" immediately into your mind, but these guys really have a very unique sound. I would be thrilled to see them blow up - download this and tell all your friends to download it.
Lightning Dust is a side project of Amber Webber and Joshua Wells of Black Mountain. It's a totally different sound, however, so I can't just say "Check this out if you're a Black Mountain fan!" It's mostly an album of slow, dark folk (funeral folk, if you will), in the vein of Bat for Lashes or My Brightest Diamond.
After hearing the song "Voices Are Your Best Friend" on the (excellent) "See You On The Moon! Songs For Kids Of All Ages" compilation, I spent quite a while searching for more of their quirky music. Thankfully, the full-length has all of the same quirk, plus plenty of funk and psychedelia, and there's some odd minimalism influence as well. The closest comparison I draw is Sung Tongs era Animal Collective.
